Hearts fan Ross Tokely put his allegiances to one side on Saturday to help Inverness
Caley Thistle into the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup.
Tokely, who was let go by Hearts as a youngster, opened the scoring for the giant-killing
Highlanders to set them on the road to a famous 3-1 victory.
Manager Steve Paterson heaped praise on the defender afterwards and revealed that Tokely's
goal had proved to be a nice little earner.
"It was a great strike by Ross because it was with his left foot and he is
right-sided," said Paterson.
"Ross is a big Hearts fan and so are all of his family and his dad had 20 quid on
Ross to score first at 25-1, so he will be happy."
Paterson, who led Caley to the famous Scottish Cup victory over Celtic two years ago,
insisted that the win over Hearts was almost as impressive.
"Caley will always be remembered for their giantkilling of Celtic, and this was
another special moment in the club's history," he said.
"I rate this victory as almost on a par as the win over Celtic because we have lost
seven players to other clubs since that night.
"We have had to bring in a number of new young players and I'm delighted that they
can be a part of this moment in the club's history.
'Disappointed'
"Our supporters were incredible because they came down in large numbers and gave us
tremendous vocal backing that inspired us to victory.
"I just hope that we can go on from here because this season has been about merely
staying afloat financially and surviving in the First Division and it would be nice to
really challenge for promotion to the Premier League in next season's First
Division."
Hearts manager Craig Levein could not mask his disappointment but admitted his side had
got what they deserved.
"Inverness thoroughly deserve their victory and they scored three excellent
goals," he said.
"They defended very well and took their chances, but I expected more from us and I
thought after we scored the equaliser at a vital time we would have built on that.
"We are very disappointed but we will have to lift ourselves and start to do well in
the league again starting at Dunfermline."
